Instructors: What is student writing?

What is student writing?

Student Writing is a collaborative writing tool that provides a transparent view of the student writing process.  This enables educators to support students as writing evolves to include new tools like AI. The tool includes a writing space, in the platform, where students draft their assignments, which protects the integrity of their written works. A report is generated for the instructor with insights on how students construct their writing, from ideation to the final written submission.  This further enables educators to see and shape how students use resources and gives educators confidence in the originality of students’ work.

Instructors can create and release writing assignments for students that must be completed within the writing space.

Instructors

Within the writing report, instructors can:

  • View a summary of insights collected during the writing process
  • Review pasted-text events
  • Investigate the version history (Coming soon)
  • Review integrity insights with Turnitin’s Similarity and AI Writing Reports
  • Provide feedback and grades to the student’s submission

Students

In the writing space, students will:

  • Compose and edit their document in the web-based editor
  • Submit their document

After submission and the due date, students can:

  • Review their Similarity Report, if enabled by the instructor
  • Review their feedback and grade from the instructor, as applicable
